Even though the Mission is heavily urbanized, it lies within easy foraging distance (2–3 miles) of several of San Francisco’s largest native plant habitats. As a result, most of the honey-bee forage that matters does not come from inside the Mission itself, but from surrounding natural areas.
Most Important Native Plants

Coyote brush
Manzanita
Coffeeberry
Toyon

These come mostly from the hills and parks around the Mission, but they power most of the local nectar and pollen flow.
